While there might be some who are surprised that Pratt is going to be lending his voice acting talents to yet another family movie on the heels of the Super Mario flick, it appears that this Garfield film is going to have plenty of star power. Earlier this spring, another MCU superstar in Samuel L. Jackson joined the cast. Jackson is said to be taking on the role of a brand new character in Vic. This new cat will be Garfield’s father and that could mean that audiences are about to get a kind of origin story.

Earlier this week, Chris Pratt himself commented on when people would be able to see the Garfield movie, no matter what the plot is going to be. He retweeted a story from Deadline that announced the movie is coming on February 16, 2024. He also added some of his personality to the announcement saying that the date was notable because it means it’s President’s Weekend. He added that the release of the movie means that the fans will finally get a Christ Pratt movie that will make them like Mondays.

The announcement that it’s going to be just a few years until fans can see Chris Pratt take on the role of Garfield is interesting if only because it hasn’t gotten a ton of press since the announcement was first made. When it comes to voicing animated characters his role as Mario of Super Mario fame has certainly gotten more attention, especially all over social media.

While there have been quite a few people who have been scratching their head in confusion ever since Chris Pratt was announced as the voice of Mario, producers have spent quite a bit of time trying to tamp down criticism. More than one person involved in the production has gone public saying people will absolutely like Pratt’s version of Super Mario.

Of course, Garfield is still one of the most beloved animated characters in the history of comics, television and movies. The feline character has even seen his fair share of appearances in video games including titles like Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. It’s a safe bet that while the movie hasn’t been getting a ton of buzz so far, the film will get a little more attention closer to its release date.

The Garfield movie hits theaters on February 16, 2024.
