However, although Chorus is a brand new IP, there is something familiar about it. Players who watch its trailers and read up on it may find that its plot threads are rather similar to Far Cry 5. In another vein, it’s also a spaceship-based action game that may remind fans of October’s Star Wars: Squadrons. These two games are very different from each other, but Deep Silver and its affiliates are finding a middle ground that might make for something special. The similarity to these two games actually makes Chorus seem pretty unique.

Bridging the Gap
Far Cry 5 is probably fresh in many fans’ minds, since it released in 2018. This Far Cry game’s standalone plot focused on a fictional part of Montana in the United States. When a county is taken over by a doomsday cult, it falls to a deputy sheriff, the player character, to explore the Montana wilderness and find a way to stop the cult’s machinations. Star Wars: Squadrons is much newer. As the name implies, it’s all about space combat, with players taking control of Star Wars’ many recognizable spaceships to partake in battles between a New Republic and the remnants of the fallen Galactic Empire.
Chorus picks and chooses parts from both these games. The story has many echoes of Far Cry 5, as Chorus’ protagonist Nara is a deserter from a powerful intergalactic cult known as the Circle. She’s sworn herself to destroy the cult at any cost, even though she’s their creation. Chorus reportedly features open world exploration, another familiar facet of Far Cry. Meanwhile, the gameplay focuses on Nara piloting Chorus’ other protagonist, a sentient ship called Forsaken. Nara will spend much of her time destroying the Circle’s affiliates in star systems across the galaxy, just like how the New Republic and the Galactic Empire wage war on a tremendous interplanetary scale.

More Than Its Parts
To be sure, these are two very different games to serve as apparent inspiration for Chorus. Open-world exploration isn’t necessarily something one associates with space shooters, for instance. However, if the dev can make the combination of traits work, Chorus is likely to be a pretty unique and memorable game. It promises diverse terrain and compelling locations to explore much like Far Cry. Similarly, it’s set up to be full of Squadrons-esque space dogfights, encouraging players to master both Nara’s supernatural powers and Forsaken’s spacefaring skill to overcome the Circle.
Further information on Chorus has been scarce, unfortunately. Players interested in the premise can look at the game’s website or Steam page, but the developer has been rather quiet overall. Since the game is slated for a release this year, however, new fans can be optimistic that more information will come forward soon. Although many elements of the game are familiar, the whole sounds like it could be something special. Far Cry 5 and Star Wars: Squadrons are worthy games to take inspiration from, if that was intentional on the developer’s part (though it probably wasn’t). There’s sure to be a lot of potential players interested in seeing where Deep Silver and company go with Chorus.
