Indeed, the developers of Chivalry 2 have now announced that the previously popular Coxwell map would be taken out of active rotation and temporarily removed from the game while it undergoes proper objective scaling and an extra tuning pass. Up until now, the objectives leaned heavily towards the Agatha faction, which meant an easy win for them in most cases.

Though Coxwell was one of Chivalry 2’s best maps across most game modes, its objectives have been heavily skewed in one faction’s favor for quite some time now. According to the developer’s blog post, there was an error in the manner in which the company collected statistical data about gameplay on Coxwell, which in turn resulted in poor objective balancing between the two factions and subsequently one of them being wildly more successful. The issue was particularly noteworthy in the final stage of Coxwell, and the developers are thankful that the community brought these problems to light.
The blog post also detailed a few of the potential changes coming to Coxwell in the future, once it’s returned to the active rotation. Spawn timers and kill counts are both likely to get tweaked and certain objectives may end up scalable with the number of active players in a given match. As one of the best multiplayer games of 2021, Chivalry 2 has shown time and again that the developers are proactive and dedicated to working with the community to iron out the kinks, and the removal of Coxwell for gameplay optimization has been met with understanding by the players.
Since not even masters of Chivalry 2’s combat could overcome the default statistical advantage provided to Agatha on this one map, it’s clear that the issue was very serious indeed. As there are plenty of other maps currently available with significantly better objective balancing, the developers are right to focus their attention on Coxwell by temporarily taking it out of Chivalry 2 and looking into what may or may not have gone wrong.
Since its launch, Chivalry 2 has been made free to play several times now, with the previous free weekend being held on March 17. There’s no telling when the next free-to-play session may be, but players interested in giving the game a shot now that the most unbalanced level in the game has been removed should keep an eye out.
