RELATED: Genshin Impact: Best Characters To Pair With Tartaglia (Childe)

Childe is often considered a fantastic character when used correctly, but of course, like any other character, he’ll need to level up and upgrade his talents to meet his full potential. To do so, players will need to collect the following items, materials, and Mora.

Leveling Materials

Whether a character is a Fatui Harbinger, an archon’s mortal vessel, or just a standard citizen of Teyvat, they’ll need the same amount of EXP to hit level 90. This table outlines how much EXP and Mora are needed between each ascension level:

Any extra EXP used when hitting an ascension level is discarded, so it’s good to try and use an efficient combination of talent materials. This is one such combination that has little waste:

Tartaglia Ascension Items

Luckily, because there are so few Hydro characters available in the game, the necessary elemental stone, Varunada Lazurite, doesn’t need to be used for as many characters. Here’s how much of that, plus the other materials and Mora Childe uses to ascend, players will need:

Gemstones - Where to Find Varunada Lazurite

Even though fewer characters need Varunada Lazurite than other elements, it can still be tough to collect enough to ascend Childe or any other character. The souvenir shops in Mondstadt and Liyue sell it in exchange for elemental sigils, and it can be a reward for completing all four daily commissions. However, much of it will come from defeating bosses.

These bosses can reward Varunada Lazurite:

Azhdaha Stormterror/Dvalin Childe/Tartaglia (his weekly trounce) Primo Geovishap Rhodeia of Loch Hydro Hypostasis

Enemy Drop - Where to Find Fatui Insignias

Strangely, Childe will need to defeat many of his own allies, the Fatui, in order to ascend. This is because he uses Fatui drops, their Insignias, in his ascension.

Fatui troops are found all over Liyue and Inazuma, and a handful can be found on Dragonspine. Higher-level Fatui agents will drop better Insignias, as outlined here:

Any level: Recruit’s Insignia Level 40+: Sergeant’s Insignia Level 60+: Lieutenant’s Insignia

Boss Drop - How to Get Cleaning Hearts

Barbara, Xingqiu, Mona, and Childe were some of the first Hydro characters in the game. As such, they all use the Cleansing Heart boss drop in their ascension. This item can be obtained by defeating Rhodeia of Loch, also known as the Oceanid, and using 40 Original Resin to claim the rewards.

Rhodeia can be found in between Mondstadt and Liyue (technically in Liyue). There’s a large platform in the ocean just east of Qingce Village, which is where the fight against her takes place. It’s important to note that the player battles the Hydro Mimics that the Oceanid summons, rather than the boss herself. Additionally, these Mimics are immune to Hydro damage, so, even though Hydro characters like Childe use her boss drop, they aren’t the best fighters to bring into this particular arena.

Local Specialty - Where to Find Starconch

Currently, Childe is the only character that uses Starconch in his ascension. Despite Childe being from Snezhnaya, this item is a local specialty from Liyue — though it may be found in the Cryo region when it’s released, too.

Mainly, these shells are found on beaches in Liyue. They can be farmed in Guyun Stone Forest and on Yaoguang Shoal, including the bits of Dragonspine that this area connects to.

Anyone looking to find more Starconch can also purchase them. Bolai, the vendor in Liyue Harbor that runs his shop underneath the wharf, will sell Starconch. He stocks five at a time for 1,000 Mora each. He’ll restock every three days.
